Desotos Eatery - The Friendliest Jazz Open Mic

We explored west along St. Claire this week, and found a classy jazz open mic held Thursday's at Desoto's Eatery http://www.desotos.ca/desotos/home.html. The restaurant/bar is spacious and airy with outdoor patios on both the north and west side of the property. The band is made up of a drummer, guitarist and stand up bass, and a variety of well versed jazz musicians took to the stage. Anthony is the rhythm guitarist that leads the open mic. A very warm and personable jam leader.

The food at the restaurant is excellent, and a wide selection of beers could be found on tap. However, what I noticed was a significant improvement in the quality of the performers who took to the stage. I met the vocalist and harp player from the Crossroads Band, who sang an excellent version of Moondance by Van Morrison.

If you are looking for a nice change of genre, and a more upscale food and clientele, check out Desotos at 1079 St. Claire Ave W on a Thursday night. It is located west of Oakwood, before Dufferin. You won't be disappointed,

Jazzeliciously yours,

The Adventure Guy
