Mt. Blanc vs. Mt Tremblant Quebec - A Family View Comparison

In my last adventure I returned to my ski home base in the Laurentian Mountains, set between Mt. Tremblant and Mt. Blanc, near St. Jovite Quebec. We had the pleasure to experience a couple of days of skiing and riding at each resort and to make a comparison.

The first item for families is the cost. The lift ticket for kids is $45.00 at Tremblant while only $20.00 at Mt Blanc http://www.skimontblanc.com. For Adults the cost  is $85.00 at Trembalnt http://www.tremblant.ca and $36.00 at Mt Blanc (before taxes) . That in itself is a big incentive for families with little ones.

Tremblant, is now recognized as the best  Ski Resort of the East, has become highly developed with residential homes, ski in ski out hotels and trendy retail developments at the base. The slopes have resultingly become incredibly busy, and with young enthusiasts flying down the runs on all parts of the trails.  One can start to fear for your kid, who could get clipped by an out of control music driven teenage boarder. The uphill capacity at Tremblant is so now so significant, that the runs are jam packed with skier traffic. Between the high speed quads and the Gondolas etc. combined with the  ski in ski out village a large number of skiers are on the slopes at all times. My kid was getting scared by all the traffic around him while he was boarding. My local ski friends do their skiing from 8:30 to 11:00 and are done before the tourists arrive.

Tremblant does have some great tree skiing off the Edge chair, cruisers off of Versant Soleil, and bumps on Expo and Kamikazee etc. Mt. Blanc has reasonable steeps, some bump runs, but generally nice groomed cruisers and a decent terrain park.

Day skiers at Tremblant have to pay for parking (on the south side), or put their equipment on in the car and shuttle to the base lifts. Personally, I like to have my gear warm and cozy before I get into my boots, and being off the mountain makes getting on a chore. We drove around to the north side.

The Mt. Blanc experience is much more civilized, with free parking right at the base, and much less skier traffic. There is a variety of runs and a new north side has been added. There is even a pool and steam and sauna that day skiers can use at the end of the day for a nominal fee of $5.00 per person including towel service and lockers.  To the kids, this is more fun than the skiing. At Tremblant the entrance to their water park is $16.00 for a kid!

Mt. Blanc, owned by the Robinson family, a long time Ski resort manager, who also owned Grey Rocks. They have hired a very customer service oriented and ski enthusiast Phil Belec, to become the general manager. Look for more good things at Mt Blanc.
