Gilles St. Pierre vs Nick Diaz in Quebec UFC 158

I had the pleasure to watch Gilles St. Pierre fight Nick Diaz while I was visiting my home province of Quebec. What I saw was a professional martial artist take down a bad assed fighter from California to the cheers of his Quebecois fans. Similar to the original Royce Gracie UFC fights, GSP came out in his traditional Karate Gi and Japanes style head band, and fought with respect and dignity against an inferior fighter who tried to take cheap shots after the whistle blew. GSP consistenly shooted in on Nick, took him to the ground and controlled him when he was down.

Sitting in La Cage aux Sports in St. Jovite, I may have been the only English speaking person in the bar. After we finished watching Les Canadiens play hockey in French, it was great to have it switch to UFC in English and watch it in that language. Quite a statement that the French Language police don't comment on when enforcing their silly rules such as requiring the word Pasta be deleted from restaurant menus.

Gilles was a class act of an athlete and fighter when he complimented Nick on his boxing and career achievements in front of his Quebec fans. He showed true Samurai spirit and respect for his opponent, like that of a true champion. The Diaz sore losers are now making suggestions that GSP was overweight. When does this bad sportsmanship end. This is a bad example for martial arts training.

Similar to the Office de La Langue Francais, when will this bad attitiude towards the English language end in Quebec. Perhaps La Partie Quebecois could follow the lead of GSP, a true french champion and show respect for others that are not French Quebecois.

With Samurai respect,

The Adventure Guy
