I attended the 26th annual Women's Blues Revue which was held at Massey Hall this past Noveber 24th 2012. A beautiful event, with an all female band and vocalists, it is a pleasure both visually and audibly. The music director and band leader Donna Grantis is a pleasure to behold and listen to as she directs music traffic and plays guitar in her black leathers. She had a entourage of equally talented musicians such as Suzie Vinnick on guitar, Lily Sazz on keys, the very hot Brandi Disterfheft on upright bass and a horn section including Rebecca Hennessey, Carrie Chestnutt and Colleen Allenl. Lindsay Beaver was on drums and vocals.
The vocalists this night included Saidah Baba Talibah, Tanika Charles, Kellylee Evans, Angel Forrest, and Sabrina Weeks. However the singer that rocked me the most was the charming Sacha Williamson. A Jazz instructor at York University, her soft and powerful soulful sound was worth it all. She came onto stage with her high stilletto shoes, and by the second song, after making a connection with the audience, removed them and sang in her bare feet. Her uber feminine aura enchanted us males as she sang with rich velvet sound and graced us with her radianct energy.
I had the pleasure to meet with her afterwards, and her personality is as cheerful and warm as her voice. She was so humble and pleased that the audience liked her sound. Her set alone made the event great.
Thank you Toronto Blues Society for making this event the outstanding musical experience it is.
Thank you women of the Blues for showcasing your talents with such class.
Rock On,
The Adventure Guy
