Le Chantecler - Classic French Styling with Old Charm, Outdoor Gateway and Music

I had the opportunity to spend several nights in one of the Laurentian Mountains original resorts located in St Adele, Quebec. This hotel built of stone construction and wood beams felt like being on a French cruise liner, with its narrow hallways and woody feel. I was expecting to see Napoleon show up to escort us on this ship.

There is no doubt that this structure is ageing and no longer in its prime condition as it was in the 70's and 80's. I guess that is what happens when the English business class left to Toronto with their wallets. However, the facility still maintains its great cuisine, outstanding view to the lake and the rolling hills with beautiful evening vistas. There is a ski hill that operates under the same name and guests get a discount on ski day tickets which makes the location an even greater deal. There are beautiful trails for cross country skiing nearby, as well as skating on the lake in front. There is a rock climbing company located in the hotel to instruct ice climbing and rock scaling. Thee are rentals for snowshoeing and cross country right in the hotel.

Intrawest drew the big crowds up to Tremblant leaving a vacuum in the southern Laurentians with less crowds, cheaper accommodations and old fashioned French Canadian charm. For a blast into the past of the original life in the Quebec of the 70's check out Le Chantecler. The bones are still solid and is a great cultural feel to it.

For the New Years a great food extravaganza buffet was presented with live music. A Wonderfully talented singer Catherine Avoine sang a variety of Motown hits with saxophone accompaniment. Le Chantecler does it all, with French class.

The chocolate croissants at breakfast are the best!

Ski till you drop,
