Govfest 2015 - Battle of the Bands - Coral Riff Opening Night

The Ontario Public Service promotes an annual cultural event to promote music known as govfest.ca The event is a fundraiser for the United Way campaign and hosts approximately 30 local bands. The qualifications are you need to have at least one band member as an OPS employee, and to sell approximately 40 tickets at $20.00 a piece. Each band gets to play a 30 minute set, and the audience votes with tickets they receive with their $20.00 admission fee.

We were at the opening night where there was 7 bands. The music ranged from Irish folk, to disco to southern rock. Our band Coral Riff, did a combination of original songs and two covers, by Credence Clearwater and Marshall Tucker. Todd Cooper was lead vocals with Al Godin. Our band was tight, but unfortunately, did not make it to the next round. See our band perform below.

The winners were Got Groove (disco) in first place and Scott Machattie (Irish Folk) in second place. It appears that the voting system favors those with more paying friends at the party.  Either way, it was a lot of fun practicing, and hanging on Queen Street to an enthusiastic audience. Toronto the good is just a lot better with Govfest. Next year join us, buy a ticket and vote!

Rock On.
