Top 5 Guacamole restaurants in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico

The Mayan Riviera is filled with beautiful cenotes, beaches  and jungles to explore. What better way to refresh from a day outdoors than with fresh guacamole, home made tortillas and a Mexican beer. I enjoy the local OXXO brand pronounced Dos Ekkes (amber).  Most of us receive avocados from Mexico. However the fruits have been ripened in transit while in a packed container and lack full flavor due to limited exposure to the sun. Experiencing fresh guacamole from local restaurants in the Mayan Riviera is the only way to appreciate Mexico's most outstanding avocados. Here is my list of the top 5 picks around Playa del Carmen and Akumal in the Mayan Riviera.

5. Lol Ha Restaurant - Akumal  Main Bay
Located on the main beach of Akumal, this busy restaurant offers a fine guacamole.  They do not prepare it in front of you so no marks for presentation. There is a nice view of the Akumal bay, but with all the tourists milling about it lacked the correct ingredients for a great experience. Good but not great.

4: Adele; Located on 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen, this restaurant gets full marks for presentation and delivery. The waiter peels the avocados in front of your eyes and adds the sliced tomatoes, onions and cilantro and mixes them in front of you. located on a  busy pedestrian only street, this is a great place for people watching and eating situated in the middle of Play del Carmen.Very high marks for presentation and delivery. Sit on the patio and watch the world go by.

3. Turtle Bay Cafe & Bakery, Akumal
This special restaurant is hidden in a back alley in the town of Akumal. They make fresh pastries, home made ice cream and breads. All their food is delicious. There is a large covered dining area with friendly cats that make dining there very pleasant. The guacamole was super tasty as were the tortillas. Very highly recommended for a food destination in Akumal.

2. El Pollo Rojo- Playa Del Carmen
This restaurant is the sleeper location that looks very humble from the outside but rocks you with the food and delivery. Located near the local bus depot known as collectivos, this place creates the ultimate food experience if you are looking for authentic Mexican fare and at a reasonable price. The furnishings are modest, but the food is excellent. Nearly perfect scores for guacamole. Perfect scores for service. Don't be taken back by the furniture, enjoy the food.

1.  la Buena Vida - Akumal North
When you are sitting in your office in North America dreaming about going to Mexico, this is the place you are probably thinking about. Situated next to the tranquil north Akumal bay, without the  crazy tourists is La Buena Vida. It offers an open air environment with tree houses to sit in and get served. You can also sit at a table and watch the surf and enjoy the best guacamole on the Riviera with a cool cerveza and enjoy the view. Located near Yal Ku, the most beautiful snorkeling lagoon in the Riviera this location receives the highest score possible for the guacamole taste, combined with cool beer and outstanding view and ambience. This is my first choice in the Mexico guacamole taste test. Please share with me your recommendations and or thoughts.
