Dave's Gourmet Pizza was once your local family pizzaria with green and white table cloths and a terra cotta floor. Named after the son of the owners. Along comes a young entrepreneur by the name of Liz, who renovates the restaruant and installs wooden floors and bar and adds a live music theme. In addition opens up the restaurant patio with an open mic live music venue for local artists. Dave's Gourmet Pizza is now renamed Dave's On St. Claire http://www.davesonstclair.com/ and located at 730 St. Clair Ave W. and has become a mecca for music and up and coming new artists.
Every Thursday, Toronto's urban scene congregates and shares their latest sounds from blues, to country to folk. The open mic jam is led by Herb and Fran McDale, two country singers with energy that is graceful and warm as each artist gets their chance to share their latest sound with the eclectic audience.
This week, there was a variety of regulars however the evening culminated in a set by The Conservatory of Music graduates Todd Cooper and Carla Hartsfield. Todd, a trained opera vocalist plays guitar and writes his own music. He performed with his very powerful operatic folk voice and sang his original "All the Way" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze5SPvAqgKA&feature=colike while Carla added her great harmonies and piano solos. Carla an acclaimed poet, song writer and piano instructor then sang two of her orginals while Todd backed her up on vocals.
Later that night a talented young Australian lady by the name of Pamela White soundcloud.com/pamela_white_inc took to the stage. She enchanted the audience with her friendly style from the place down under. The audience was graceful and appreciative as each artist took to the stage to share their latest sounds and music.
