Port Sydney & Pine Lodge Inn, Muskoka

Once upon a time there was a beautiful logging town of Port Sydney nestled at the base of Mary Lake in Muskoka. In 1927 Pine Lodge Inn was developed to house the travellers, and loggers. It was a simple and rustic form of accomodation that met the needs of travellers for many years. Fast forward to 2012, and Port Sydney is now a cottage vacation spot, in upscale Muskoka. Located away from the busy  majour lakes west of Hwy 11, this area is in my eyes the jewel of the Muskokas.

The Pine Lodge Inn www.pinelodgeinn.com was fully renovated in 2010 and is now tastefully reappointed with a modern Muskoka feel. The rooms are luxuriously furnished with quality beds, flat screen TV's and beautiful cermaic tile washrooms. The restaurant aptly called Grill 27 named in honour of its heritage is elegantly designed with rustic dark wood and stainless steel. A great family and quality dining experience for the small town.

The Port Sydney public beach is just 100 yards to the south of the property, so an easy walk for the kids to get to the fun and water of Port Sydney. The beach is available for public boat launching as well, with a great dock and easy access to the lake. For moms Huntsville is just 20kms away by the backroads for shopping. Personally, I prefer the scenic cycling roads that follows Mary Lake into Huntsville. They are easy rolling hills, and the drivers are very respectful of cyclists, giving plent of room when passing.

Having stayed at the Pine Lodge before and after renovations, it is truly amazing to see what well designed leaseholds can do for a property. The Inn is rejuvinated and truly adds that extra touch to make Port Sydney the Jewel of the Muskokas.

Meandering in the Muskokas,
