I attending the annual Toronto Bicycling Network's www.tbn.on.ca BBQ ride this past Sunday August 12, 2012. I was shocked to see all the riders show up at the Yonge and Finch starting location for this ride. There were novice intermediate and advanced riders all ready to roll.
I have been riding on and off with the club for many years, but am impressed with the way it has maintained and grown its membership. The ride was well mapped out with each class of rider getting their own special maps. The beauty of this event was that all classes of riders met at the identical place at Toogood Pond in Unionville for lunch. They had a great BBQ set up with vegetarian and meat burgers, lots of fresh veggies and home made potato salad and cole slaw.
I hammered through an 80 km ride at a good clip averaging over 25 kms/hr but still got dropped by the Tourist group. One thing about TBN riders, they are not very sociable unless you are leading the pack.
However, it is a great way to increase your training motivation by trying to keep up with the better riders..
For a club that fits most riders appetites, check out the TBN.
