Toronto Gay Pride 2013

I have always been oblivious of the activities of our Gay community in Toronto. However, that changed after I took a stroll through Gay Pride festivities this past Saturday June 29th.

I recently read the book The Creative Class by Richard Florida, an  urban economist at the University of Toronto. As a student of urban economics myself, Dr. Florida's findings indicate that the vibrancy of a healthy urban area is in direct relation to its Creative classes, ie those working with ideas, artists, soft ware designers, architects and the Gay community.

His book outlines that if you want to make a good real estate investment, look where the Gay community is moving to. They often improve their properties to a high standard, and are generally safe and gentle. However, the other important finding is that societies that allow Gay communities to live unthreatened are healthy for creative class to live, breathe and create.

That leads me to the power of the Toronto's Gay Pride, which really is a testament to the city's tolerant society and respect for all individuals. The liveliness of the event, and the good naturedness of all the participants reflects well on the creativity of the urban scene of Toronto. The bars are filled with people enjoying themselves, and young people playing their own original music.

Canada is one of the world's greatest countries, because of our tolerance of all nationalities and people. In the future, we should celebrate Gay Pride not just for the coming out of alternative sexuality, but a testament to quality of our society and the fabric of the urban landscape to allow all to flourish and pursue their happiness.

Party on,

The Adventure Guy
