Bike to Work Day May 26th - Upcoming Events

As urban areas become increasingly congested the battle to keep people moving sustainably is foremost on many urban planners agenda. One concept is to increase the use of cycling to commute and reduce reliance on fossil fuels and non sustainable transportation. With the onset of a diabetic/obesity problem in North America, one of the causes is suburbanization and the long hours spent sedentary in vehicles commuting and then sitting at desk jobs. With one smart idea, we can fix obesity, diabetes, global warming and congestion www.cycleto.ca

This Monday May 26th is the beginning of Bike to Work month, starting with Bike to Work Day www.biketoworkday.ca. The idea is to have commuters experiment in changing their commute habits and to explore the world of cycling to work. The magic number is 10 kms, inside which cycling is an effective alternative.

This Monday May 26th, the senior management of MTO, Smart Commute www.smartcommute.ca and myself, will be cycling to work to support this important initiative. I ask of you to join the movement and participate. The more cyclists on the ground, the more the planners will provide the safe infrastructure required to commute throughout the city. In the words of the Soeul Korea planning department "We need to go on a car diet".

Take this one step forward for a healthier planet and you.

Sincerely,

The Adventure Guy
