The Toronto Buskerfest www.torontobuskerfest.com returned bigger and better than ever along Yonge St. between College and Queen Street. When I observed the acts I realized what I was really watching was street circus and the acts one would see at Barnum Bailey without the animals. The performers were from around the world and they win awards by attendees voting for the best acts. I saw Mad Cirquel a fire and martial arts display from Mexico and Hungary, acrobats from Quebec, jugglers from Australia etc., Silver Elvis, Chalk Chic, Music on a weird turtle thing and more....
The four young acrobats from Quebec tumbling, and juggling skills were amazing. They ended with a catapulted double double back flip. To me they resembled members of the Quebec Air Force, the freestyle ski team from Quebec that has taken the ski world by storm.
However, the most touching of all the performers was a beatboxer by the name of Scott Jackson www.scottjacksonbb.com He explained to the audience that he was depressed for 3 months and could not get out of bed. Suddenly he started making beatbox sounds which got him motivated and out of bed. He kept making these sounds to the annoyment of his parents. Now he is one of the world's best beat boxer and travels the world doing what he loves. His message is that no matter what you want to do in life, pursue it even if people think you are crazy or not good. There is only one life so live it the way that makes you happy.
The Buskerfest is a show of unique circus artists, which in their own unique way try to make the world a better place by performing their art form.As the Quebec team said, they are not paid to perform by Buskerfest, so they live off the funds that people give them. They are not beggars, they are professional beggars/artists.
Support them and their art form.
