NZ Foundation - Collingwood's Lost Son

I visited Collingwood Ontario for opening day of the ski resorts this last December 30th, 2015. The latest opening in many years. It appears that global warming is getting stronger each year. The skiing was limited to a few runs on each mountain which left most people working out on their bikes, gyms or at Le Scandinave Spa. It still feels good to be in such an active outdoorsy and health oriented neighborhood.

However, I was most touched by the skiers walking around town with the NZ Foundation jerseys. The www.nzfoundation.ca foundation is a non profit society dedicated to providing better fencing and protection for ski and snowboard race courses. Unfortunately, Nik Zoricic a  world class ski cross skier  died in a terrible crash in 2012 in a world cup event in Switzerland. The theory is if there were better fencing he would not have gone off course and fallen on the icy conditions. His father a ski coach at Craigleith, tried to maintain Nik's passing with a positive message about making ski racing safer. His foundation provides grants and assistance for race programs in Ontario to make all courses

It is a touching story to see what the love of parents can do for a son. I was particularly impressed to see the beautiful NZ jerseys for sale in Skiis and Biikes, and the numbers of people wearing them. They are high quality, and the purchase of one goes to the NZ Foundation. It is as if Nik became Collingwood's lost son.

Golda Meir, Israel's first female Prime Minister said "There will be peace in the middle east, when the Arabs love their sons more than they hate us". Perhaps if we used the love of  NIk Zoricic  as an example, we could create world peace, and not just better ski courses.
