Before the Flood

I have been writing this blog about a variety of  subjects, but one topic is now getting to the top of the list as it is becoming critical. As a skier and adventure traveler, I am connected to the environment. However, the planet is on fire. The year of 2016 has broken all records of global warming. It has gotten so bad, that the World Cup of Alpine Skiing has been cancelled at Lake Louise for the first time in 30 years.

I recently had the opportunity to watch a National Geographic film called Before the Floor Before the Flood Trailer narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio. He won an UN award for the film and his activities in promoting the effects of the fossil fuel industry on climate change. It is available on You Tube. The film highlights the impacts on the arctic ice caps and the rising water levels in Florida etc.

It is November 18th and there is not a speck of snow on Mt. Tremblant Quebec. Toronto feels like it is in a summer heat wave. The film says we have reached the tipping point of climate change. We must collectively change our habits.Reduce our fossil fuel energy consumption and reduce eating beef are two major concepts.

David Suzuki has admitted that he is now in the death zone as he has entered the 80th years of his life. However his last battle will be with government to create constitutional law to protect the environment.

We must believe that man has the sense to see the effects of his behavior on the planet. We have entered an exponential curve of heat gain and we must cool off our demand on energy. Drive less, cycle more, eat more vegetarian, and reduce consumption.

Keep Calm and Conserve On,

The Adventure Guy
