This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Beaches Jazz Festival www.beachesjazz.com in the Toronto Beaches. This 10 day music event is in my opinion, the best of all. This past Saturday afternoon saw a line up of great Blues singers such as Carlos Del Junco, Paul James, and Brian Lee. The beer was flowing, the chicken was bar b queing and the audience was chilling to a great round of musicians.
I had the pleasure to meet and purchase one of Carlos Del Junco's original CD's recorded at Grossman's Tavern. Paul James was rockin like Chuck Berry, and the perfect clear night and breeze coming in off the lake made the event a wonderful experience.
What makes this venue so special is the Beach effect, with lots of fresh air coming in off cool Lake Ontario, combined with the cyclists and rollerbladers on the waterfront. The inner city events are a little to humid and corporate for my liking. I have melted in Montreal, and been toasted by the TD Jazz festival in downtown. This venue is just right.
This weekend is the highlight of the 10 day event when Queen Street is closed off and musicians of all types line the street. Close to home and still pretty groovy. Kudos to TD bank for taking the lead sponsorship on this event.
