Cyclon 2013 - Toronto Bicycling Network- Peterborough

The Toronto Bicycling Network www.tbn.on.ca had their premier cycling event located at Trent University this past weekend. Located in the Kawartha district of Ontario, and straddling the Trent River, this year's Cyclon was superb due to the perfect riding temperatures and outstanding route design by the Cyclon committe, Geroge, Dee, Neil and Arnie.

The club started some 25 years with about 18 riders that met at Queen's park statue, and today boasts over 800 members. With the average age of a Cyclon attendee at 52.8 years this might give you an idea of their demographic. However, these middle aged and above riders are some of the healthiest and fastest cyclists I have met.

I believe my self to be a decent rider, but they kept my pace up as we averaged 27 kms per hour for a good 85 to 93 km routes. They don't seem to tire out, and the next day they are ready for more. I felt like an Avatar, as we were flying down the rolling hills around Peterborough, and these riders would pass me of speeds above 50 kms per hour. They were transformed into some powerful new breed of cycling machine when they click into their pedals. Originally I thought they just had really good bikes, but now I realize that many of them cycle three times per week or more to get so strong. Below is the Trent Severnway Lock system the highest vertical drop in the world with over 100 feet. built 100 years ago. Very impressive.

The catered food was well done by the university and the club seems to always know where to find the best ice cream shops. For an excellent cycling experience at budget pricing, check out Cyclon by TBN. Next year it is off to the University of Ottawa
