National Geographic Magazine has rated the St. Lawrence Market as the best fresh market in the world! Amazing feat, considering that it is publicly managed by the City of Toronto. On Saturdays, Ontario farmers bring their locally grown produce to the north building. There you will find a selection of organic and non organic, fruits, vegetables, and baked goods. There are a variety of gluten free products and unique vegetables to choose from. On the south side of Front in the main building is a variety of fresh meats and prepared foods from all various nationalities. There are unique art shops that sell everything from candles to model rock guitars. Personally, I love the giant eggplant and chicken sandwiches they sell in the basement area.
However, my favorite spot is the location of Nice Things by Helen, www.nice-things4u.com a Montreal artist who makes her own sterling silver jewellery designs. There you can find the unusual and funky necklace, ring or bracelet. I spent my university years working at Nice Things in Old Montreal, and like all good business people, emigrated to Ontario several years ago. Her associate Judy makes funky hats and hair pieces. The combination of the two of them makes this booth the best on the strip in my opinion.
The St. Lawrence market is a cosmopolitan place combined with artisans, fresh foods and music. It is a great place to be on a Saturday morning. The booth is located on the north side of Front, just west of the north building in front of the Rainbow Theater.
Shop on,
