Skateboard Parks Toronto

I recently purchased a new skateboard for my son, which brought me back to my days as a rider in the 70's. The new trend is for long boards, which are great for long distance travel, but useless for parks, tricks and short hauls. I find them too heavy to lug around, and too expensive for what you really need. After reviewing this new fad, we decided on a twin tip deck with long board trucks for stability, and good wheels.

We tinkered around the neighbourhood, and started to learn about ollies and basic turns. I had spent time in California and skateboard parks of Florida. It was time to show the kids the parks of Toronto. There is a small park at Leslie and Steeles. There are other city made parks with rails and boxes near Queen E and the 404. This weekend we checked out the skate park at Lakeshore near Leslie in the Beaches.

When we got there at 5 there were kids and teens riding all types of lips, waves, and rails. They were on skateboards, BMX bikes, and even scooters. The kid on a scooter was sticking 360 and 720 spins off  a beautiful jump and landing it with grace.

However, there  was a great moment as I was sitting at the top of the park with a 12 foot drop into a swimming pool when I met a couple of similar middle aged riders from the 70's now with their kids skateboarding. We talked about our Kryptonic wheels that used to be the premium wheel in our day. What I thought was a dead sport, is still very much alive and well. Not as vibrant as in California, but pretty good for a big east coast urban city.

The kids are doing some pretty slick tricks off the rails and steps and pools. For a fun day of concrete waves and tricks, check out the skate park in the Toronto Beaches.
