Harmonica Retreat Weekend with Carlos Del Junco, Adam Gussow and Jerome Godboo

Down on the bayou near Dunnville Ontario is the shared harvest farm www.sharedharvestdunnville.com an organic and healthy living learning center which hosted three of the best modern blues harmonica experts in June. While Johnny B Goode may have been able to play a guitar, Carlos Del Junco, Adam Gussow and Jerome Godboo could hold their own with any blues harp master.

The weekend was attended by harmonica enthusiasts from all over the world, from as far as Italy, North West Territories, Chicago and Mississippi. The vibe was warm and friendly as the all male student body focused on their faculty's mantra and practiced their licks, riffs, and scales with great precision.
Each teacher had a unique flavor. Carlos www.carlosdeljunco.com is like a classical music instructor paying attention to precision note playing and focusing on learning the scales in various positions with the aid of the latest computer tools.

Adam Gussow www.modernbluesharmonica.com, a harp master with a cool day job as a University of Mississippi English professor, relied on his street music education from Harlem with Satan and taught his foundation of harp by tapping your foot to keep a rhythm while playing. His call and response method of teaching riffs was a fun way to learn, and with his accompaniment with his guitarist Allan Gross who  also has a cool day job at the University of Mississippi as a professor of psychology. Their style of teaching was academic with a fun spin.

Jerome Godboo www.jeromegodboo.com was always the generous teacher, sharing his learnig material and promoting the new Brendan Power bender harps which he believes in so much. However Jerome went even further and shared the stage with two students at the seminar. Manlio from Italy is probably the bluesiest harp player in Europe took to the stage with Richie the coolest bus driver in Regina. The two students rocked the house with their rich harp sound, to all's pleasure.

From beginner to intermediate to advanced, the shared harvest harmonica retreat www.sharedharvestdunnville.com was a great success for all blues harp enthusiasts. Great food, great music, great experience.

Look forward to next summer.
