Finding Zen at the Toronto Snow Show

I visited the Toronto Ski and Snowboard Show to find the newest trends in gear and fashion etc. What used to be a mecca for ski films, acrobatic demonstrations and ski swap, has really morphed into a ski travel show with discount retailing. There was a cool snow jam outside of the building for board enthusiasts to get some early riding in.

There are always a few new ideas to find. One idea was provided by the Sony booth, which allows an external lens to clip onto your phone for added zoom capabilities and improve the quality of the still shots. They also have a very compact sport cam to compete with the  GOPro crowd.

However, the most impressive western destination in my travels was the Red Mountain BC www.skired.com. The mountain has been improved with new lifts opening 3000 vertical feet of new terrain. The destination boasts being rated as the number 1 Ski Town in North America. In addition it get 4.5 ratings on Tripadvisor for skier experiences. However, I think the coolest is that you can experience Big Red Cat skiing nearby and for $10.00 a run you can experience cat skiing on Red for daily excursions.

In the East, Jay Peak Resort www.jaypeakresort.com gets my vote for most improved resort. Snatched from the hands of the Mt. St. Saveur Group, Bill Stanger and investors have pumped millions into the mountains accommodation, hockey areana and event created an indoor waterpark with surfing, hot tubs etc. On those super cold eastern days, it is a great place to hydrate.

Ski vacations are the ideal way to spend family time, in the embrace of nature and the ability to be at one with the mountain and the people that are most important to you. Invest in adventure experiences that will last a lifetime this year.

Ski On,

The Adventure Guy
