Laurentian Skiing 2015 & Ski Zen Love in Ski Museum

In 50 years of skiing I have never seen conditions in the Laurentian Mountains this dry. In the old days all the operators would have been bankrupt. The mountains are in effect  running on artificial snow making and those resorts with the best equipment are providing the best skiing. Perhaps only those mountains with snow making resources have the ability to survive. I skied Mt Tremblant, Mont St Saveur and Mt. Blanc and Chantecler all on artifial snow and currently blowing snow as the temperatures have dropped.

The global warming effect has definitely made being a ski operator more complex. As well travellers need to be more resourceful in finding activities to do when the snow does not appear. Shopping is an easy way to have fun. There are hot baths such as the Polar Bear Club and the Nordic Spa on old highway 117. Near Tremblant you can check out Le Scandinave for a more upscale and costly spa experience.

You can also visit the Laurentian Ski Museum on Filion Street in St Saveur and learn about the rich history of skiing in the Laurentians. Mont St. Saveur was the first ski resort in North America and Montrealers would access it via the train, now a cycling routhe called le Petit Train du Nord. It makes great cross country sking and cycling in the summer time.  Many of the original Laurentian ski hills are closed such as Mont Fugere, Mont Castor, Mont St Agathe and Alta to name just a few. My first book Ski Zen Love has now been inducted into the museum  for sale and it chronicles the origins of freestyle skiing in Quebec, the 21 man flip on Mont St Saveur, and the first world record for the most ski hills skied in one day in 1978 done by the author, at the time we skied 28 different hills in one day.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2015. Please pray for snow and support Canadian artists and buy Ski Zen Love to support the Ski Museum and the dream. Also available at the Austrian Ski Shop in Montreal and Amazon.com. See link below for a video presentation about the book:
